Canvas Snowflakes

Oh, what FUN January brings to the classroom! This week we made glitter snowflakes on canvas. It was a bit of prep beforehand, but well worth it! You need the following supplies to get started.

There are many different options for all of the above really, so I just added links for MY favorites. Once you decide on the thickness of canvas you would like to use, and the width of painter’s tape you can begin by using the tape to make a snowflake design on your canvas. If you look carefully, you can tell that some of the painters’ tape, I used was much thicker in width giving the snowflake a fuller design.

Once taped and ready to go, you can choose your paint color (we experimented with different colors). We encouraged our kiddos to paint on the white part of the design rather than over the entire piece. This just makes it easier to peel off the paint once the paint dries. Once all of the white was covered, we sprinkled glitter over the top of the canvas and let semi-dry. You don’t want to let the paint fully dry, or it will be very difficult to pull the tape off!

Overall, I’d say this project was a success! On the messy scale from 1-10 I’d give it a 5, 7 if you add glitter!

What is your favorite winter classroom project?
